WKSU is changing its Saturday and Sunday program schedules starting on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12.

The station is adding The Moth Radio Hour and moving Snap Judgment to Saturdays, creating a “storytelling block” with This American Life beginning at noon.

Radiolab moves to 3 p.m. An hour dedicated to limited run specials (like last year’s Invisibilia) and hourlong documentaries will air weekly on Saturdays before All Things Considered.

“Invisibilia was part of a significant trend in public radio,” said Ele Ellis, program director of WKSU. “It is vital for WKSU to have a dedicated time for these exciting and worthwhile programs.”

The station’s initial airings in this slot include the investigative documentary series Reveal.

Sundays will now be home to a “food block” with the radio version of America’s Test Kitchen, following Lynne Rossetto Kasper’s The Splendid Table at 3 p.m.

The Christopher Kimball-hosted ATK also will include a weekly rebroadcast of Vivian Goodman’s Beard Award-finalist Quick Bites segment.

“Food – eating, growing and cooking – is something everyone relates to, especially in Northeast Ohio,” Ellis said. “Being a ‘foodie’ here seems part of the region’s DNA.”

To make room for food lovers, the TED Radio Hour now airs at 4 p.m.

“The programs being produced for public radio are more varied and exciting than ever,” said Dan Skinner, executive director of WKSU. “I am very happy that we can offer Northeast Ohio listeners more excellent reasons to turn to WKSU.”

To introduce the new weekend line-up, WKSU will present “Summer Vacation 2015,” a preview week of shows from Saturdays and Sundays aired Monday through Friday the week of July 6 at 11 a.m.

The schedule includes: Monday – Reveal; Tuesday – America’s Test Kitchen; Wednesday – This American Life; Thursday – The Moth Radio Hour; and Friday – Snap Judgment.

About the new programs:

The Moth Radio Hour (Saturday, 1 p.m.): The Moth’s metamorphosis from small gathering to large staged events grew the audience without losing its intimate nature. The Peabody Award-winning Moth Radio Hour brings together voices – from the very famous to the completely unknown – who have taken the stage at a Moth event to tell their own unique and engaging story.

America’s Test Kitchen (Sunday, 3 p.m.): A food program for right now – filled with clear, practical information, without the gourmet fuss. The hour is all about insights, tips and techniques that illuminate the truth about real home cooking. Host Chris Kimball introduces listeners to an eclectic collection of test cooks and food experts from the Test Kitchen, and people who come at food and cooking from unique and useful perspectives, with rich stories to tell.

Reveal (during Specials and Documentaries on Saturday, 4 p.m.): The Peabody Award-winning investigative journalism program for public radio. Produced by The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX. Reveal presents original work from CIR's team along with various partners: stations, producers, websites, journalism centers and reporters from around the world.
